A New Beginning

Bryn Awelon Farm is located on the Valparaiso Moraine in Porter County. Aled and Mildred Davies and their sons Richard and John moved to the farm in 1946. There were few trees on the nearly 50 acres and the land had been badly eroded. In the early 1980’s, Aled decided to plant thousands of walnut trees, reforesting the land for the first time in 150 years. John Davies returned from Memphis with his wife Jo Ann and daughters Kelly and Jennifer in late 1986 where he had worked in the cotton industry because he wanted to help nurture these trees for “future generations.” John and Jo Ann have made the farm their home where they raised their own family.
